July 23, 2009

The balsamic vinegar flowed freely in the Philippines.

Tsukasa Hiiragi took the top spot in the 2009 International Saimoe League Ruby standings with a 1616-8994 beatdown of Chii in Manila.

Defending champion Fate Testarossa Harlaown rolled to a 1714-671 victory over Alice Carroll in Buenos Aires.

Maintaining her top spot in the overall standings was Shana. The fiery-eyed melon bread munching tsunderekko cruised to a 1865-738 victory over Mikoto Misaka.

Once again, the Lucky Star girls prevailed in another sweep. Kagami Hiiragi had no problems downing Vita 1626-825 in Madrid, and Konata Izumi stomped Index L. Prohibitorum 1520-861 in Moscow.

Index's defeat puts her out of consideration for returning next season automatically.

The Hayate the Combat Butler girls also claimed a perfect day. Maria whipped past Sayuri Kurata 1629-985 in Jakarta, Nagi Sanzen'in defeated Mei Sunohara 1598-1098 in London and Hinagiku Katsura simply leveled Nagi 1847-622 in Mexico City.

Also claiming sweeps were the Rozen Maiden Alice Dolls and the SOS Brigade.

Shinku kept her hopes alive with a 1511-victory over Rika Furude in Sydney. Suigintou tore down Shiki Ryogi 1855-615 in Lima and Suiseiseki completed the sweep with a 1697-753 domination of Marisa Kirisame in Seoul.

Haruhi Suzumiya kept pace with Shana by burning Hanyuu Furude 1707-1237 in Bogota, Yuki Nagato scored a businesslike 1832-573 pasting of whipping girl Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga in Milan and Mikuru Asahina completed the sweep with an easy 1865-656 victory over Patchouli Knowledge in Los Angeles.

Reimu Hakurei-and with it, Touhou's-hopes to return next season are one defeat away from being deferred. Hakurei lost to Nagisa Furukawa 1648-1058 in Kinshasa.

A loss on Ruby match day 3 will put closure to what has to become the most disappointing campaign among the groups of characters in the ISML this season.
