Essendon Bombers announce independent review
ESSENDON has announced an external and independent review of governance and processes of the club,
following allegations of performance-enhancing drug use which have rocked Windy Hill.

In the wake of an Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority on-going investigation into potential use of
performance-enhancing drugs by players in 2012, the review was approved by the Essendon board.

Chairman David Evans said the review would be conducted by former Telstra chief executive Dr. Ziggy
Switkowski, who now chairs the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation. He is presently
the Chancellor of RMIT, Chairman of Suncorp, and a director of the Business Council of Australia.
Assisting Switkowski will be Dr. Andrew Garnham, specialist sports and exercise physician and lecturer at
Deakin University.

The review will examine the governance of the Bombers, from board level down. It will also investigate
practices in other clubs and other sports, to measure Essendon's actions over the past 18 months.

Evans said Switkowski would be given all the resources he required. The Bombers expect the review to be
completed before the ASADA probe is finished.

The report's findings will be sent to the AFL Commission and to ASADA. Essendon expects that
recommendations be made public.
