BIG JONATHAN Brown has booted five goals as the Lions ran over the top of Carlton in the NAB Cup Grand Final on Friday night at Etihad Stadium.

The Lions brought September intensity - and quality - to the game, winning by 40 points, 0.16 13 (109) to 2.7.9 (69).

Mitch Robinson kicked the first goal of the game as Carlton dominated the early minutes, the Blues hogging the ball to have 19 possessions to just five.

But they were unable to capitalise and the Lions hit back when James Polkinghorne ran through the middle and kicked perfectly to Josh Green who marked and goaled.

At the first break it was the Lions by 12 points. But Carlton responded quickly after Mick Malthouse gave his team a blast at quarter time.

The Blues raced to a quick lead on the back of three consecutive goals. The Lions stemmed the flow but a late goal to Matthew Kreuzer gave Carlton a handy 13-point lead at the main break.

The Lions started with a bang in the third and cut the margin to a point with two goals in less than two minutes.
