Troy: 2016 Dollar General Bowl Champions

MOBILE, Ala. -- Jordan Chunn had three short touchdown runs and Troy intercepted four passes in a 28-23 victory over Ohio in the Dollar General Bowl on Friday night.

The Trojans (10-3) finished off their first 10-win season since moving up to the FBS in 2001, thanks largely to a defense that came up with three big fourth-quarter stops. The first Sun Belt Conference team to crack the Top 25, Troy forced 18 turnovers in its last five games.

The Bobcats (8-6) settled for field goal attempts twice in the fourth quarter, making one, and got one more chance from their own 15 with 2:20 left and no timeouts. They managed one first down but Greg Windham couldn't throw for another one under heavy pressure.

Louie Zervos had made a 37-yard field goal with 4:01 left to cut Troy's lead to 28-23. They had first down from the 12 before a personal foul penalty against lineman Jake Pruehs.

Chunn found little room to run except near the goal line against the nation's sixth-ranked run defense. He had 56 yards on 20 carries.

Deondre Douglas gained 113 yards on six catches. Ohio's Jordan Reid had 12 catches for 162 yards.

Troy's fourth interception came courtesy of 315-pound defensive tackle Trevon Sanders. One play later, Chunn powered in for a touchdown and a 28-17 third-quarter lead.

THE TAKEAWAY

Ohio: Couldn't overcome the mistakes despite a number of big plays from Windham and Reid. Windham completed 23 of 47 passes and the offense gained just 78 yards on 30 rushes.

Troy: Converted three of Ohio's five turnovers into touchdowns. Was outgained 393-322.

PICK PARTY: Interceptions were on sale at Dollar General. Both teams had a pair in the first 9:17 of the game, and Windham was picked twice more.

CHUNN'S MARK

Chunn scored his school-record 35th career touchdown on Troy's opening drive, breaking a tie with Joe Jackson (1994-97) with a season left to play. He finished his junior year with 37.

UP NEXT

Ohio loses Windham and five starters on each side of the ball. Opens next season against Hampton.

Troy could have a stronger team next season. The Trojans return all but two offensive starters, including Chunn and Silvers. The defense gets seven starters back but loses Sun Belt defensive player of the year Rashad Dillard. The first game is a big one, at Boise State.

Louisiana Tech: 2016 Armed Forces Bowl Champions

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Louisiana Tech senior quarterback Ryan Higgins was bawling like a baby even before Jonathan Barnes' game-ending kick went through the uprights to win the Armed Forces Bowl.

"As soon as (the holder) put the ball down, I felt like the kick was money," Higgins said. "Each person that I hugged after that, it was just getting worse and worse. .... I just couldn't be happier to send my class and this team out on a high note."

Higgins threw for 409 yards and four touchdowns, two each to Trent Taylor and Carlos Henderson, and Barnes' 32-yard field goal broke the game's fourth tie as the Bulldogs beat Navy 48-45 on Friday.

"Excellent win would be an understatement," coach Skip Holtz said.

"If you want to be a kicker, you live for that," Barnes said. "I'm lucky to be able to share it with a bunch of guys that are like my brothers."

The Bulldogs (9-5) drove for the winning score after Navy freshman quarterback Malcolm Perry ran 30 yards for a touchdown on his only play. Higgins was then 4 -for 4 for 58 yards on the final drive.

Navy (9-5), which was trying for its first consecutive 10-win seasons, instead ended with its third straight loss. The Midshipmen lost the American Athletic Conference title game before its first loss to Army since 2001.

"They made a few more plays than we did," coach Ken Niumatalolo said.

Taylor, the 5-foot-8 senior, set an Armed Forces Bowl record with his 12 catches for 233 yards, including a 51-yard TD just before halftime for a 31-24 lead, and joined Troy Edwards as the only Bulldogs with more than 4,000 career receiving yards. Henderson, a junior had 10 catches for 129 yards and finished this season with 19 TDs.

Perry, whose TD with 3:46 left tied the game at 45-45, came in after Zach Abey took a shot to the ribs on a play that led to a targeting ejection by Tech defensive tackle Jordan Bradford.

Abey, who made only his second start, ran for 114 yards and two scores and threw for 159 yards and another touchdown.

TAKEAWAY

Louisiana Tech: The Conference USA runner-up Bulldogs won their third straight bowl and reached nine wins for the third consecutive season, the first time as a Division I team to do that. After falling behind 21-17 early in the second quarter, the Bulldogs regained the lead on Henderson's 3-yard TD and never trailed again.

Navy: After being held to 270 yards rushing in the previous two losses, this was more like the Midshipmen triple-option offense. They had 459 total yards, 300 on the ground. Even so, it was a bitter end for Navy, which had won three straight bowl games -- a streak that started with an Armed Forces Bowl victory three years ago.

PENALIZED NAVY

The Midshipmen's 70 yards on penalties (seven) were their most under Niumatalolo. "We've been coaching nine years and we led the country in the least amount of penalties. I told those (officials) after this game we would be leading the country," he said. "I thought there were a lot of bad calls." Jarid Ryan had an apparent third-down interception in the end zone in the fourth quarter that was instead called pass interference.

HENDERSON HIGHLIGHTS

Both of Henderson's TDs were short (3 and 4 yards) and impressive. On his 3-yarder in the first half, he made a two-handed grab over the defender and got both feet in bounds. With just over 4 minutes left in the game, he had a leaping 4-yard catch when he reached around with his right hand for the catch in the back corner of the end zone.

HIGH MARKS

The 93 combined points made for the highest-scoring Armed Forces Bowl, surpassing California's 55-36 win over Air Force last year. ... Navy's Chris High twice had tying TD runs (24 yards and 9 yards ) on long Navy drives in the second half.

UP NEXT

Louisiana Tech: After Higgins became the third senior Bulldogs QB in as many seasons to throw for more than 3,000 yards, sophomore J'Mar Smith could be starting when the Bulldogs open next season against Northwestern State. WR Taylor will be gone, but Henderson has another season of eligibility and could be a prime target.

Navy: The Midshipmen go into the offseason with their first losing streak since they had a three-game slide in the 2014 season. They have a long wait before their first chance to snap that streak, in the 2017 opener at Florida Atlantic on Sept. 2.

Old Dominion: 2016 Bahamas Bowl Champions

NASSAU, Bahamas -- David Washington threw three touchdowns passes, Ray Lawry ran for 133 yards and Old Dominion beat Eastern Michigan 24-20 on Friday in the Bahamas Bowl.

Old Dominion (10-3) won in its first bowl appearance in school history. The Monarchs didn't play football for 69 years before restarting the program in 2009. They made the transition to the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2013.

Eastern Michigan (7-6) lost in its first bowl appearance since 1987. The Eagles were led by Brogan Roback, who completed 26 of 46 passes for 300 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Roback threw for at least 300 yards in six of his final seven games.

Old Dominion had a 10-0 halftime lead, but Eastern Michigan rallied to tie the game at 17 late in the third quarter when Paul Fricano made a 24-yard field goal.

The Monarchs bounced back with Washington's third touchdown pass, which went for five yards to Jonathan Duhart and put Old Dominion up 24-17.

ODU controlled the game in the first half and an impressive 47-yard touchdown throw from Washington to Zach Pascal gave the Monarchs their 10-0 halftime advantage.

Washington -- who was a receiver earlier in his collegiate career -- evaded multiple Eastern Michigan defenders on the play, before stepping up and throwing to Pascal in the end zone.

ANOTHER GOOD GAME

The Bahamas Bowl has now featured three interesting games in its three-year history. Western Kentucky won the inaugural game in 2014 against Central Michigan 49-48, barely holding on after giving up 34 fourth-quarter points. Last year, Western Michigan and Middle Tennessee were tied at 24 going into the fourth quarter before Western Michigan pulled away for a 45-31 win.

UP NEXT

Eastern Michigan: The Eagles took a huge step forward this season after winning just one game last year, but taking another step will be a challenge in 2017. EMU must replace a lot of talent on both the offensive and defensive lines, including star defensive end Pat O'Connor.

Old Dominion: The Monarchs must find someone to replace Washington, who was steady all season. Old Dominion will have a few more holes to fill -- particularly at linebacker -- but returns quite a bit of talent on both sides of the ball.

Idaho: 2016 Potato Bowl Champions

BOISE, Idaho -- Idaho quarterback Matt Linehan made a strong statement with his play on the field Thursday night in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. He was just getting started.

Moments after earning MVP honors in the Vandals' 61-50 victory over Colorado State, Linehan explained what the victory meant to him and the program after the school made the controversial decision to move down to FCS starting in 2018. In April, the Sun Belt informed the school it was dropping Idaho after the 2017 season.

"We belong in FBS -- period!" Linehan said in a radio interview with ESPN. "That's what I believe. That's what everyone believes. We know we can compete. We belong here. No matter what anyone thinks, even our tone-deaf president. Maybe he doesn't think we belong here, but I think we belong here."

Linehan's emotional words matched his play. He was 21 of 31 for 381 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Linehan, whose father Scott Linehan is the offensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, also ran for another score in the third-highest scoring game in bowl history.

The bowl record for points is 125 in Marshall's 64-61, double-overtime victory over East Carolina in the 2001 GMAC Bowl. Idaho and Colorado State broke the Potato Bowl scoring record set in 2009 in Idaho's 43-42 victory over Bowling Green.

Linehan, who toned down his comments and apologized to university President Chuck Staben in the postgame press conference, still reveled in the season-ending win.

"No matter what was said to begin the year, I think all these guys believed we could get to this point," Linehan said. "We spent so much time dealing with adversity and tough losses. I think we were just tired of losing."

Idaho (9-4) matched its highest victory total since moving to FBS in 1996.

"I couldn't be more proud of our players," coach Paul Petrino said. "They were focused on winning the football game and that helped them come out and play well early. They were told there were a bunch of things they weren't supposed to be able to do, but they did it anyway."

Petrino shied away from wading in on the school's decision, but that didn't stop him from politicking.

"You'd hope we made a statement," he said. "We were 2-0 against Mountain West teams year. We'd look pretty good in that conference. But I can only control what I can control, and that's to be as good of a coach as I can be."

Colorado State (7-6) finished with a bowl loss for the second straight year.

"We tried some different things this year in preparation," Colorado coach Mike Bobo said. "You want to finish up strong. That onus falls on me. That's the position I'm in as the head coach."

After a scoreless first quarter, it appeared that both teams had dug in for a defensive battle. But that quickly dissipated as the teams started rolling up points.

The 84 points in the second half are the most combined in a half in any bowl game, breaking the record of 76 set by Tulsa and Virginia Tech last year in the first half of the Independence Bowl.

Isaiah Saunders led the Vandals on the ground with 147 yards and set another bowl record in the process with 33 carries.

Colorado State wasted a bowl record-setting performance from Stevens. He tied two records -- touchdowns accounted for with five, touchdown passes with 5 -- and set the passing yards records with 445. He finished 21 of 36 with two interceptions.

Sophomore Olabisi Johnson paced the Rams' receiving corps with 265 yards -- also a bowl record -- on seven catches with a pair of touchdowns. Dalyn Dawkins ran for 118 yards and a touchdown.

REVERSAL OF FORTUNES

Coming into the game, Bobo said a major factor for his team's defensive success was limiting the big plays. But the Rams were dismal against Idaho, yielding nine plays of 25 yards or more.

The Rams also staked much of their success this season on winning the turnover battle.

However, Idaho, which entered the game 13th in the country in turnover margin, won that category as well. The Rams turned the ball over three times, while the Vandals were turnover free.

UP NEXT

Colorado State: One of the biggest storylines heading into the 2017 season will be the quarterback position.

Freshman Collin Hill won the starting job but suffered a torn ACL in his left knee midway through the season. However, Nick Stevens' return sparked the Rams. With Hill likely unable to practice in the spring and Steven returning for his senior year, competition for the starting job promises to be fierce again in fall camp.

Idaho: The Vandals will look to exit FBS with a bang and claim only their second conference title since moving up in 1996. Idaho's last conference championship came in 1998 in the Big West.

The Sermon On The 18th Green Of Pink Wind, December 23, 2016.

Bruhs and sistahs in Pangya, dear beloved otaku brethren of burning love, I bring you good news!

I realized that the Pangya dream was not dead after all. I spent a month and a half in the wilderness of #NoPangyaNoParty, wailing with alligator tears down my eyes, wondering, wishing, hoping for a chance to be united with my game that I loved so much, a game that made me believe in the healing power of Japanese pop culture. For I am a weeaboo because I speak Engrish, Wapanese and Doge Ratine (that is English, a pidgin mix of Japanese and English, and Dog Latin) and I love it, love it, love it! But alas! I was lost and I was on the point of no return. The light was burning, it was too hot, too scorching, too...ronery.

And so I saw a vision. The god Bongdal the Magnificent, the Almighty, the most...Suteki Nanodesu, he came down from the isolated abodes of the Grand Zodiac Hole In One Proving Ground with his legion of benevolent...paper bags! Over 9,000 of them, I say! So brilliant, so beautiful, so...kakkoii desu yo! wwwwwwww. They bowed, saying as one army of over 9,000 bongdali, "Pangya...Pangya...Pangya is the greatest game on earth."

He said in a deep voice as a band in the distance played a march dedicated to Troy, "At long last, you have done well to keep the faith, noble Bongaboi of the province of California. So, it is thus I shall reward you, and those who fought well against the forces of tyranny and pay to win and have won to bring back the one sport you all love."

I asked him, "O Bongdal! O Bongdal, Bongdal, Bongdal! What is this sport you speak of?"

He said... "PANGYA! The tradition since 2004 is now back thanks to your love, devotion and will to keep calm and Pangya on. Now, behold, you are no longer Pangyateers. You...are now...CELEBRITIES!"

With his awesome power that is truly over 9,000, Bongdal glowed and slowly but surely, restored the island, retaining most of its wonderful maps. Blue Lagoon. Blue Water. Pink Wind. Shining Sand. Silvia Cannon. West Wiz. Wiz Wiz. White Wiz. Ice Spa. Ice Cannon. Deep Inferno. Sepia Wind. Wind Hill. The challenges that made golfer legends and pros in the own right.

Behind me, I saw a group of fellow survivors. As one, we bowed down to the group of Bongdali, throwing ourselves down as one. We extolled the praises and said in one full voice, "Pangya Global Is Dead! Long Live Pangya Celebrity! Our game never quits! Our game never dies! Pangya Is The Greatest Game On Earth! Pangya Is Greatest! Pangya Is Greatest! PANGYA IS GREATEST!"

A massive roar came from the crowd and we, the players of Pangya, rejoiced as we celebrated the return of a game that was taken away from us by greedy corrupt businessmen who did not care about the players but the almighty dollar, the invincible yen, the wonderous won. Now, we are one nation, one powerful nation of youth and people beyond youth, standing shoulder to shoulder to play the game that makes us proud to be gamers and anime fans...besides Overwatch, of course.
