Mio wins Necklace Match, Remilia takes Ring
By JR Salazar (Bongaboi)
August 17, 2011
Taiga Aisaka didn't really need to win the 2011 International Saimoe League Emerald Necklace match. After all, she was the best-placed finisher at the end of the round robin. She did, however, need a strong performance, and that's what she got.
A second-place finish, with 1,426 votes, gave her a score calculation of 11.368, which was more than enough for Aisaka to earn her first necklace since garnering the Topaz last year.
"This is old hat for me," Aisaka explained to the press, who were taking notes. "Oy, Ryuji, stop petting my head. Anyway, this is all old hat because I've won necklaces before, and I was due for one of these. I think Shana, as I see it, is on the decline, and I would believe that she may not have enough in the tank to win a necklace this year.
"I have nothing but praise for Shana, and she does have two more chances to salvage a win, but I think her time has definitely come and gone."
Mio Akiyama won the necklace match with 1,440 votes. However, her inferior 6-1 round robin record hurt her chances of making headway on those ahead of her in the standings, including Mikoto Misaka and Kanade Tachibana, who also finished unbeaten.
Shana finished the necklace match in third with 1,390 votes and was a distant fourth in the calculation with a score of 7.227. In fourth place was Hinagiku Katsura, who earned 1,171 votes but only finished sixth in the calculation with a score of 6.088.
Eucliwood Hellscythe finished fifth in the necklace match with 1,165 votes and was third in the overall calculation with a score of 7.269. Azusa Nakano was sixth in the total vote with 1,110 votes and finished fifth in the calculation with a score of 6.541.
Holding up the rear was Haruhi Suzumiya, who had a disastrous performance, managing just 953 votes and a subpar 5.616 in the score calculation.
Remilia Scarlet of Touhour Project, fresh off defeating her sister Flandre in an exhibition, used the momentum to defeate Sakura Kinomoto 1,796-1,765 to win the Emerald Ring. Nozomi Kiriya was third with 1,734 votes, Misuzu Kamio was fourth with 1,131 votes, Lucy was fifth with 1,024 votes, Hikari Yagami was sixth with 842 votes and Shurei Ko managed a measly 363 votes to finish dead last.
Three other exhibitions also took place. In a battle of familiars, Botan of Clannad came out on top with 2,141 votes. Tama was second with 1,849 votes, Cerberus was third with 1,655 votes, Mokona was fourth with 1,372 votes, Akamaru was fifth with 720 votes, Luna was sixth with 610 votes and Steak was last with 308 votes.
Ika-Musume rollled to a 2,422-1,386 annihilation of Makoto Sawatari. Rose was third with 1,348 votes, Tsubasa Hanekawa was fourth with 1,272 votes, Lisanna was fifth with 1,023 votes, Arf was sixth with 694 votes and holding up the rear was MArgery Daw with 510 votes.
Ayumu Aikawa's ability to get the job done as a trap proved to be the difference in a 1,917-1,454 sawing of Shiro Emiya. Negi Springfield was third with 1,281 votes, Stiyl Magnus was fourth with 1,261 votes, Ikuto Tsukiyomi was fifth with 1,133, Yuuno Scrya was sixth with 909 votes and Kazuma Yagami was last with 711 votes.
Five necklaces down, two more to go before we head into the Tiara. Match Day 1 of the 2011 International Saimoe League Ruby Necklace phase is scheduled for Tuesday, August 23, 2011.
