There were handshakes and high-fives all around at A certain High School and Tokiwadai Junior High in Academy City as Mikoto Misaka scored her biggest win of the season: a 4829-4821 thriller over Azusa Nakano in the penultimate match day of the Aquamarine Necklace phase.
Misaka won nearly every region, save for Indonesia, the Philippines, the Middle East, North Korea and Japan.
"We have a long ways yet to go, but let me tell you everybody, we are off to a flying start," a smug Misaka said to a crowd of 1,000 at Tokiwadai's central quad. "I have of course a lot of people to thank: Touma, Kuroko, Index, Accelerator, Last Order, Mitsuko, Eri, Kazari, Ruiko...you all are the best, and I am certain we will keep this going."
"Isn't onee-sama wonderful or what?" said an emotional Kuroko Shirai. "The best onee-sama in the world, and we're just getting started!"
"I believe God has something in store for Mikoto," Index Prohibitorum said. "Something big, something special. That was an exceptional performance."
Shirai defeated Asami Iwasawa 4672-4275. Index lost to Kyou Fujibayashi 4900-4267.
Shana defeated Mio Akiyama 4927-4719.
"I think I have what it takes to get the numbers in my favor in the final match day of this one," the flame haze added as she was petted by her significant other, Yuji Sakai.
"I did not figure to end up first due to the other matches involving the other unbeatens," said Yuki Nagato at a press conference in Osaka. "This match day on Tuesday will settle the score."
Nagato edged Hinagiku Katsura 4784-4611.
"However," she added, "the most important thing is that I remain unbeaten, and will continue to be so for the longest time. I hope to claim the Aquamarine, but it will not be easy."
"I came into the match knowing that if I defeated Eu," said Kanade Tachibana at a press conference in Tokyo, "I would not be first in the Aquamarine standings if the numbers were not in my favor. It's better for me to remain unbeaten than to have to worry about a piece of jewelry.
"My main goal is winning the Tiara, and that's what I will set out to accomplish. However, if I end up winning the Aquamarine on Wednesday, I will be fine with that."
Tachibana defeated Eucliwood Hellscythe 5748-3580.

The stage is set for a fantastic showdown in the 2011 International Saimoe League Aquamarine phase between Eucliwood Hellscythe and Kanade Tachibana. This could be seen as a preview match for the Tiara postseason, although that is a long ways away.
Hellscythe, who currently leads the Aquamarine, defeated Yui Hirasawa 4963-4004. Tachibana was all business against Yuri Nakamura with a 6322-2323 annihilation.
A few more marquee showdowns are on the way on Sunday.
Defending ISML Champion Mio Akiyama is scheduled to take on Shana in what looks to simply be a match to stay unbeaten unless the numbers from the Hellscythe-Tachibana content play in the hands of the winner of this match.
Akiyama defeated Charlotte Dunois 5007-4042 while Shana torched Yui 5075-3811.
Mikoto Misaka is expect to win a close match against Azusa Nakano, but voters will be wise not to count the 2010 2chan Anime Saimoe Tournament winner out of a matchup like this.
Nakano edged Ruri Gokou 4606-4488 while Misaka cruised past Taiga Aisaka 4716-4176.
Finally, the match between Hinagiku Katsura and Yuki Nagato won't determine the winner of this necklace, but it will be one to keep tabs over.
