For the very first time, a No. 1 and No. 2 seed will take on each other...in the Losers' Bracket of the 2010 International Saimoe League Tiara phase.
Shana will face defending champion Hinagiku Katsura in the fourth round of the Losers' Bracket. Katsura defeated Yuki Nagato 3855-3113. While Latin America was split 50-50, Katsura carried every other region but the USA, Russia (who voted 70.2% for Nagato) and South Korea (who voted 60.8% in favor of Nagato). Thailand was Katsura's strongest region, with 68.7% of the vote. She also did well in Japan (with 66.7% of the vote), West Asia and Canada.
As for Azusa Nakano, she will take on an opponent that she has not done very well against: Taiga Aisaka, who roared to a 3764-3160 victory over Haruhi Suzumiya. Aisaka carried every region except for Russia, South Korea, and the Philippines (who voted 54.8% in favor of Suzumiya). Indonesia was Aisaka's strongest region, with 65.7% of the vote in favor of the Toradora! franchise heroine.
In the match for 15th place and the final battle between Bakemonogatari rivals, Hitagi Senjougahara routed Nadeko Sengoku 3873-2797. Senjougahara failed to carry three regions: Tsaiwan, Japan and Indonesia (who voted 56.7% in favor of Sengoku). Otherwise, Koyomi Araragi's main love interest/significant other did reasonable well. Oceania was Senjougahara's strongest region, with 73.7% of the vote. She also did well in Eastern Europe (72.1%), Western Europe (66.7%), Russia (65.4%), Latin America (67.7%) and the USA (64.8%).
In the match for 13th place, Kyou Fujibayashi defeated Kagami Hiiragi 3630-3273. Eastern Europe was divided 50-50, but regions like Canada (who voted 61% in favor of Fujibayashi, her strongest performance), Thailand (58.8%), China (56.5%) and African (57.1%) weren't, and were key to Fujibayashi's win. Japan paid homage to the 2008 2chan Saimoe Champion, voting 61.5% in favor of Hiiragi.
There was another Suzumiya besides Haruhi that took part in the proceedings on Tiara Match Day 6, and that was Haruka Suzumiya from Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. Unlike Haruhi, Haruka was victorious, defeated Mitsuki Hayase 3216-2826. Not even a 100% vote in favor of Hayase in Africa could stop this Suzumiya from winning. Major victories in China (64.5%), the Philippines (62.6%) and South Korea (65.9%) propelled Haruka to victory.
Hakuoki's Chizuru Yukimura rolled past Katanagatari's Nanami Yasuri 3294-2828. The Philippines was Yukimura's strongest region with 65.3% of the vote. Yukimura also did well in West Asia (63.6%) and Taiwan (64.1%). Russia was Yasuri's strongest region, with 64.9% of the vote.*
Celty Sturluson may have her supporters in Japan and Korea, but not so much internationally, as she was leveled by Mina Tepes 3706-2658. Maybe it's the lack of a head. Maybe it's Mina's loli charms. Or maybe it's the fact that Tepes carried every region except for Africa (who voted 66.7% for Sturluson), Russia, Indonesia and Oceania (the latter two divided at 50-50). The Philippines voted strongly in favor of Tepes with 72.3% of the vote.
Gundam SEED's Lacus Clyne is a memorable female in her own right, but she's just not relevant enough for the interests of the voters. However, Rimi Sakihata of ChaoS;HEAd is, and she destroyed Clyne 3849-2625. Clyne was only able to carry Hong Kong (with 52.4% of the vote) and China was 50-50. Africa voted 83.3% in favor of Sakihata. She also thumped Clyne in Latin America (75.8%), Eastern Europe (73.2%), Western Europe (65.8%), the USA (65.1%), Taiwan (62.1%), Indonesia (63.8%), Japan and West Asia (at 61.25 and 61.1%, respectively).
The match between Akiko Minase and Haruko Kamio was nowhere close to close, as Nayuki Minase's mother did better that Misuzu Kamio's in a 4425-1864 thumping. It was a clean sweep, with every region voting in favor of Minase. Africa was the strongest at 83.3%, while Thailand clocked in at 80.2% and Canada voted 77% in favor of Minase.
Wrapping up action in Tiara Match Day 6, Chihiro Shindou cruised past Sawako Kurnuma 3934-2639. Shindou won evet region except South Korea (who voted 65% for Kuronuma) and Indonesia (who voted 52.1% in favor of Kuronuma). Otherwise, buoyed by a 100% vote in Africa, this was a walk in the park for one of the more recognized characters from ef-a tale of memories.
Taiga Aisaka will look to continue her win streak against Azusa Nakano in the fourth round of the 2010 International Saimoe League Tiara Losers' Bracket, while an epic Sunday showdown between the top two seeds awaits in Shana vs. Hinagiku Katsura. Also on the cards are a couple of classification matches to determine 9th and 11th place.
