The LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds captured an NCAA Tournament berth by routing the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers, 91-70, in the Northeast Conference Championship Game on Tuesday in Brooklyn, N.Y.
C.J. Garner made 13-of-17 field goal attempts and finished with a career-high 31 points to lead the Blackbirds, who will make their third consecutive appearance in the Big Dance.Jamal Olasewere added a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
LIU Brooklyn trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, but rallied to take a 35-31 lead at halftime. The Blackbirds scored the first seven points out of the break, taking an 11-point lead which was never challenged during the remainder of the game.
The Blackbirds are projected by SB Nation bracket expert Chris Dobbertean to face the James Madison Dukes in one of four play-in games during the opening round of the NCAA Tournament next week.
