ATLANTA — Prairie View A&M is SWAC champs after holding off a furious Southern rally late for a 72-66 win in Atlanta Sunday.
The Panthers entered the conference tournament as the No. 8 seed and won four straight games to claim the championship. They’ll find out Sunday where and when they’ll play next as the NCAA tournament field is revealed.
Lance Williams led the Panthers with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Cory Wells added 16 points and Dontae Horne chipped in 15.
The Panthers had a 22-point second half lead over Southern, but saw that lead shrink to two before pulling away for the win.
