So, I continue on with more thoughts on Day 3. You know, one of the biggest gripes with attendees at any public gathering is that some of them are unprepared. I ask someone, "Hey, do you have the time?" and they look at me as if (a) they don't know English (in which I wonder what the fuck are they doing here in America if they don't know how to speak the language) or (b) they say, "I don't know."
Seriously, come prepared to help. I literally had to ask an attendee in her 50's the time. "10:45 a.m." she said.
AX Idol seating draws nears. And so, after blowing $200 dollars on doujin work, I waited for a while to get my seat in the front.
This Western Michigan man named Seth Chiplock pulled off a great rendition of Kenshin Himura; you swore he already was a professional and he was cheating.
But it sure was a great show. And this was his first-ever convention, so it was all the more sweeter.
So the main itinerary was like this. 12:45: head to Exhibit Hall for drawing. 1:10, return to AX Idol for Tsunku's scrutiny, 3:05 head to Lindsay Plaza to break out the camera, 3:30 K-ON! photo shoot, 4:00 Bag Check, 7:30 Masquerade, 10:00 more bag checking.
And as I took my seat, I wondered who would topple Orange County for best of show. I liked where I sat. I had a side view of the action, while seeing the entire crowd. It's like Spring Sing.
Unfortunately, it was a disappointment.
The performers looked like they were struggling, the intermissions was woefully out of sync, and just about all the attendees left the place, bored out of their shoes.
Without ado, here were the entries, and my thoughts.
Entry 1: "Supah Kaizoku." (One Piece) Not bad stuff to start.
Entry 3: "Princess Ash.," Glamorous. Love it.
Entry 4: "I'm At A Con!" by Godly Productions and Soy Sauce Cosplay. Get down! Keepin' it real. Not sure this has a place at AX, but they represented everything Chicago is good for apparently.
Entry 5: "Shin Musha Gundam" by Zeonic Corps, celebrating 30 years of excellence. Look out, he's gonna fall apart! That went well...
Entry 6: "Inquisition: The Lady of Death." Fashionista.
Entry 7: "Street Fighter IV: Let's Get Ready To Rumble!" Ken Masters vs. Ryu...and then it turns into a dance number, with Dan Hibiki wrecking it beyond recognition. Brilliant.
Entry 9: "Buddha: The Boisterous Ball of Spiral Power." 8 skipped? Hmmm...Rickrolled. Cheap.
Entry 10: "Pandora Hearts: Oz Bezarius's Excellent Adventures In Wonderland." Conversation. Love those suits. Yes, your Majesty.
Entry 11: "King of Fighters." This guy pacing around in the back is made of win. Some good rapping. Saturday night fun. Zzzzzz...
Entry 12: "Dr. Stein Knows Where Chaos Will Ensue." (Soul Eater) Some good sketch comedy.
Entry 13: "Sephiroth." That was it? Only 10 fucking seconds!? For shame!
Entry 14: "The Exorcists: Street Performing." True. Hilarious. They're doing [sic] it wrong.
Entry 16: "The Debilitating Effects of OTP-One True Pairing." Comedy and signs full of pairs. Left and right...but I am not sure why Brangelina is still talked about. Didn't those two break up already?
Entry 17: "Uniting Forces Through Song and Dance...What R P Go Golies!" Not a fan of the skit name, but definitely a fan of the dance. The Caramelldansen by Final Fantasy Cosplayers. On Day 4, they would form a Caramell chain with others.
Entry 18: "The Gala Malicious Squad. Hai!" So much for direction.
Entry 19: "Guns of the Righteous." Nicholas Wolfwood from Trigun and Lady from Devil May Cry flashing their guns. The exhibition of artillery and courtesy.
Entry 21: "Final Fantasy VII: Not That Much, save for Sephiroth" Him again. He's gonna need to fill himself up; he looks quite malnourished.
Entry 22: "Anything Pokemon Can Do..." Pikachu vs. Charizard. Nice musical number.
Entry 24: Zone Zero presents: "Bishamon & Kiyouyomi get it on." Stalemate? No, Bishamon wins.
Entry 25: "Shaman King" by Toddler Boy Cosplay. Big number here. A dance number. Good contender. Using "Move Your Feet" by Junior Senior. Brilliant.
Entry 26: "Sessho as Suigintou." The old lady has left the building...
Entry 27: "Last Call for Galaxy Express 39: All Aboard!" Go, Maetel. Good angle.
Entry 28: "Sakura on the Run" by That's What She Said Cosplay. That went well...
Entry 29: "Let's Fresh! Concert" by Cure Peach, Berry and Pine. (Yes! Precure 5) Fat ladies...but they are devoted. I'll give them that.
Entry 30: "Ears That Fluff." Comedy between Inu-Yasha and Sesshomaru. Don't like Sessh's accent...but that cell phone...
Entry 31: "Fly on the Wings of Chaos." A Ragnarok Online skit. Go Lag. I have lost the game.
Entry 33: "Iji as Emperor Lelouch" by XDCosplayXD. Don't Die, Hooch! Spoilers!!! XD
Entry 34: "Abel in the Final Battle." (Trinity Blood). Elaborate outfits. Good drama.
Entry 35: "Sex. Money. Sex. Money. Cat. Gay? I'm not sure. Curious and Curious presents: Are You Curious Yet?" An Avenue Q rendition.
Entry 36: "Phoenix Wright: Time Travel Turnabout" by Combo Breakers. Using "The Cake Is A Lie." Hungry now for McDs.
Entry 37: "Dirge of Cerberus. Final Fantasy VII Deleted Scene." Pretty good acting.
Entry 38: "Before there was Yu-Gi-Oh!...before there was Pokemon...there was another monster-catching game: Jade Cocoon." Yes, these outfits are good.
Entry 39: "The Midday Tea Party." A Kuroshitsuji skit. I believe this won Best of Show. Good musical number. Definitely "The Most Wonderful Show Of The Year."
Entry 40: "Eternal Dream." Hey, it's Sailor Cosmos. And it's the music the Orlando Magic used in the 2009 NBA Finals! Yeah!
Entry 41: "Across the Frontier" by Coconut Bubble Sex Cosplay. Too bad this group got shafted by bad audio.
Entry 43: "Hakaida Squad." Advertisement. Also used in "The Humans Are Dead" music video.
Entry 44: "The Young Samurai...It Is Her Idea That He Is Nominated For...Ooooh!" Hatsukashi~~~yo~~~...
Entry 45: "Puppets Tutu" by Tipping Hat Productions. The magic cometh...
Entry 46: "Hitsugaya Itoshiro." Bloody fangirls...
Entry 47: "Pokeball Z" Satoshi turning into a Super Saiyan...*shudder*
Entry 49: "Brawl Babes." Samus. Zelda. Peach. The Pink Ice Climber. They sure can't dance. But they sure can fight.
Entry 50: "Tira." She lmows how to use her thing-er, ring.
Entry 51: "Designers...Make It Work!" by Project Cosplay. Here we have the fashion show, in which Tifa Lockhart wins yet again.
Entry 54: "Abershiro Blames Chrono For The Entire Thing." Naruto Again? Ms. Really Really really Bad Dancer.

Anime Expo 2009 thoughts, Day 3
On a day where America celebrated its independence and Steve McNair committed suicide (son of a bitch, another one?), I was busy getting some K-ON! doujins and some shots of the K-ON! girls. I was on a K-ON binge, I couldn't even begin to tell you.
Masquerade was a disappointement. Unimaginaive, drab, and the intermission music was so off-key. Send in the K-ON! band to perform next year, please!

"You sick bastard!" said Jeff, a member of the Main Events team, and a K-ON! fan, as he looked through the crapload of K-ON! doujinshi I purchased at the exhibit hall. I had a smug expression on my face. "You just about bought all the remaining K-ON! doujins out there!"
Well, save for one. I ran out of money by the time I did my run. But I do concur that I bought up a storm. And I took some photos of the K-ON! cosplayers at Lindsay Plaza that day. Pretty well done. What other convention do you have the opportunity to cross into six Mio Akiyamas donning identical outfits and makeup? AX, of course!
Anime Expo 2009 thoughts, Day 2
This day was pretty nice to me, save for the fact that my battery died. So I had to spend my money buying a few disposable cameras to continue my cosplay photo shoot. But this was a day of first. First autographed board. First doujin purchased. First dakimakura purchased. First shots of Mio, Azusa, Rimi and Yoshika taken, along with some Lucky Star shots. First full set of K-ON! albums purchased. Heck, we had to move a boulder into Bag Check.
Also took some shots of Michael Jackson tribute, ate some ice cream, sipped on some Monster, got thrown back to the Midwest with some meatloaf, shot the Higurashi caravan....mother of God, couldn't it get any better. As the Quakers say, "I hope so."
That autograph was by chance. So I wandered into Petree Hall, where another panl was wrapping up. I asked Senji Mizushima about the one work that he had the most fun being a part of as wel as Takeshi Kuroda. Mizushma said "Generator Gawl" and Kuroda said "Trigun" (he wrote the script for it).

Anime Expo 2009 thoughts, Day 1
Much better day, in leaps and bounds.
"F--k AX," said a person from Axcess Control, disgruntled as he worked on his bacon, eggs and spuds. "We clamor for extra perks and we get shafted," he goes on, continuing his spiel. I listened, and soaked in the realities of some of the team who work hard, but aren't as recognized as the others.
We went back to th LACC on this school bus that was clearly refurbished. "We're going on this!?" I exclaimed for the longest time. As I got on the bus, I turned on my AC/DC. And as I got back to the place, I wandered, looking at some of the decor before stopping by for the Opening Ceremonies. And I took plenty of shots along the way.
Most of the day, outside of stamping tickets, checking bags and counting cash, I was taking photos of cosplayers posing. At the exhibit halls I got all these different magazines and visual books. I think the only downers were the early stumbles, forgetting to film the left daruma eye being filled, and the battery dying after shooting concluded. I realize that we have stuff to purchase.
Xeno, Kisegi and Mahoko are tucked nice and tight into their little backpack. On the agenda: buy remaining pins, K-ON shirt, batteries, and that other maazine I wanted, as well as some extra plushies. I love spending. And I thank my student loan disbursements for it.
I gotta get some sleep. Michael Jackson's funeral is tomorrow, and I gotta tune out all the madness. If I need to buy my baterries at the hotel, I don't mind it one fucking bit.

Anime Expo 2009 thoughts, Day 0
Not exactly one of the smoothest days I've had, as I began my new role with Frank Cheng's Bag Check team. The one positive I could take from this was that I was able to prepare our work space and run through the courses of action. That, however, was the only thing that went right. At my hotel, the Bonaventure, I ended up being served by incompetent people who did not know how to do their jobs, and a room key that did not work (which was later recoded to work).
But I think the worst part that happened was after the shift. Now, our staff had Yoshinoya bowls for dinner. I only took one from a bag. And that was it. It was a Beef Bowl. The other two were vegetable bowls, and I did not touch either of them. In fact, I offered one to another hungry staffer. He put that bowl in the box, while looking for a different bowl. The second bowl I ate was essentially out of the fact that if no one wants their bowl, what good is it to waste it? So I finished it, and disposed it. And then the managers there tell me that that was it.
There was no "Take One Bowl ONLY" sign. Where was that? And I don't even eat veggie bowls. The second was out of the fact that this would have been wasted. Just abut everyone else had their share. I offered to explain the situation to my div head, my good friend Liz Wang, but she didn't want to hear it. I mean, come on now. This bowl would have been thrown in the trash, if no one took it. Someone else could have taken it, and I would have been happy with that. I wanted the Beef Bowl anyway. Now, if that was reserved for someone, I can offer to pay for another on me. That's no problem. But the last thing I want is to have this frustration to boil over and set the tone for the con on the wrong foot.
I mean, get over it guys. This is not the biggest issue we have. We have four days to help people get to where they need to go and to help make AX 09 a success. I can help refurbsh the lost meal. This is nothing. I wasn't trying to be greedy or anything. No one told me when I came in to wait for someone to determine this and that. I can't be shouldering a great deal of the blame.
But at the same time, I can sympathize with Liz. She had to go up and down to look at the people at the Reg lines, look at the shuttle lines, look at other areas in her division and other divisions, and so on. I hope she gets over it, because I want Frank to tell her that I have done well with the Bag Check team.
The blunders and mistakes I had on Day 0 I know will be outweighed by bigger and better things to come. I'm not gonna let this get to me. This will be a spur for me to do some carpe diem in my new surroundings. It starts now.

Suiseiseki continues to hold her lead against Suigintou through eight match days in the 2009 International Saimoe League Emerald necklace phase.
The celebrated doll, known for her "desu" catchphrase, thumped Alice Carroll 2077-857 in Tokyo. An emphatic victory over C.C. should be enough for her to wrap up her first-ever ISML necklace.
Suigintou, however, is not out of contention for grabbing her second necklace of the ISML season. The hardest-working Rozen Maiden Alice Doll kept pace with a 1849-765 win over Marisa Kirisame in Algiers. However, she will need an impressive win over Nanoha Takamachi combined with help from C.C. to overtake Suiseiseki.
Kyou Fujibayashi has a chance to jump both dolls with a solid victory over Kagami Hiiragi. However, it may be all for naught if any of the two above her get the job done. Fujibayashi demolished Shiki Ryogi 1675-922 in Buenos Aires.
One of the tantalizing marquee matches to wrap up the Emerald phase is Haruhi Suzumiya vs. Tomoyo Sakagami. A victory by either competitor in this match will not guarantee a necklace victory, but it will make a huge statement.
Suzumiya is undefeated through 44 match days, and will be keen to keep her run going against one of the best challengers from Clannad. She disposed of Minori Kushieda 2059-1213 in New York City.
Sakagami had no problems against Shiori Misaka in a 2058-678 mismatch in Dhaka.
Shana and Rin Tosaka are outsiders in contending for the Emerald necklace, but can still finish unbeaten in the phase.
The fiery-eyed, melon bread-munching slasher burned past Illyasviel von Einzsbern 1987-1250 in Sydney, while Tosaka put Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga to the electric chair in a 2351-600 pasting in Kinshasa.
Defending champion Fate Testarossa Harlaown defeated Ami Kawashima 1831-1298 in Paris.

The celebrated doll, known for her "desu" catchphrase, thumped Alice Carroll 2077-857 in Tokyo. An emphatic victory over C.C. should be enough for her to wrap up her first-ever ISML necklace.
Suigintou, however, is not out of contention for grabbing her second necklace of the ISML season. The hardest-working Rozen Maiden Alice Doll kept pace with a 1849-765 win over Marisa Kirisame in Algiers. However, she will need an impressive win over Nanoha Takamachi combined with help from C.C. to overtake Suiseiseki.
Kyou Fujibayashi has a chance to jump both dolls with a solid victory over Kagami Hiiragi. However, it may be all for naught if any of the two above her get the job done. Fujibayashi demolished Shiki Ryogi 1675-922 in Buenos Aires.
One of the tantalizing marquee matches to wrap up the Emerald phase is Haruhi Suzumiya vs. Tomoyo Sakagami. A victory by either competitor in this match will not guarantee a necklace victory, but it will make a huge statement.
Suzumiya is undefeated through 44 match days, and will be keen to keep her run going against one of the best challengers from Clannad. She disposed of Minori Kushieda 2059-1213 in New York City.

USA upsets Spain to make Confed Cup football finalBLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa (AFP) — The United States shocked Spain 2-0 on Wednesday to book a place in the Confederations Cup final and end the European champions record-breaking win streak.
A first half strike from Villarreal's Jozy Altidore and another 16 minutes from time by Fulham's Clint Dempsey did the damage in what will go down as one of the biggest victories in US football history.
They also had a flawless performance by Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard and a commendable defensive display to thank for earning them a shot at the trophy on Sunday against either Brazil or hosts South Africa.
Their only black mark was having Michael Bradley - son of the coach Bob - sent off for a lunging tackle with four minutes left, meaning he will miss the final.
It was a remarkable upset on a freezing night that not only ended Spain's record of 15 consecutive wins but also prevented them from surpassing Brazil's 35-match unbeaten run.
Spain will have to be content with going into the history books level with the South Americans after their first loss since November 15 2006.
After resting several players for their last match against South Africa, they were back at full strength with Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Joan Capdevila and Xabi Alonso returning to action.
The United States welcomed back captain and ex-Fulham player Carlos Bocanegra while Howard returned to goal.
Spain had won all three previous encounters but the United States' miracle run to the last four, qualifying on goals scored after finishing level with Italy on goal difference, showed they could not be understimated.
They had the first chance of the match with Howard forced to turn a dangerous Cesc Fabregas cross-cum-shot over the bar in the third minute.
But the US weren't sitting back and Charlie Davies sent a spectacular bicycle kick flashing just wide then wasted a free header minutes later.
With Dempsey firing a long range drive close soon after it was clear they meant business.
At the other end Fabregas sent a cross in from the left which Fernando Torres volleyed just past the post from six yards.
They combined superbly again shortly after with the Liverpool striker forcing a fine one-handed save from his Merseyside rival Howard.
But in a major shock the US took the lead on 27 minutes when the powerful Altidore muscled past Capdevila and Carles Puyol with Casillas unable to prevent his shot finding the back of the net.
It was only the third goal Spain had conceded in 16 games.
Spain were in trouble but bounced back with a hatful of chances with Torres and Ramos in the thick of it only for heroic defending to deny them time and again.
They went to the break losing 1-0 and in need of something special.
David Villa almost provided it soon after the restart when he let rip from just inside the box but Howard turned it round the post.
Spain had a penalty appeal turned down before Albert Riera tugged a shot just wide as they ramped up the pressure.
They threw all they had at the Americans but Bocanegra and his defensive partners held firm and against the run of play the underdogs scored a second.
LA Galaxy's Landon Donovan sent the ball in from the right and defensive errors by Gerald Pique and Ramos allowed Dempsey to hustle the ball over the line for a famous victory.
Brazil and South Africa play their semi-final on Thursday.

Murder-capital murder-written all over it.Iowa football coach fatally shot in high schoolPARKERSBURG, Iowa (AP) — A gunman shot and killed a prominent Iowa high school football coach in the school's weight room early Wednesday and was taken into custody shortly afterward, authorities said.
The gunman shot Aplington-Parkersburg High School coach Ed Thomas at about 8 a.m. with about 50 students in the school, including several in the weight room at the time. School was not in session, and no one else was injured in the attack.
Thomas, the 2005 NFL high school football coach of the year, was airlifted to a hospital and died, his family said in a statement. He was 58.
Holly Fokkena, a spokeswoman for Butler County, said an adult male suspect has been taken into custody and was at the Butler County jail. She did not say if the gunman was a student at the school. But school district board secretary Sue Miller said she had heard he was not.
The district's superintendent and a guidance counselor were meeting with students who were in the weight room at the time of the shooting.
"No kids were hurt, we're thankful for that," Superintendent Jon Thompson told KOEL radio. "They did witness this and so we have counselors at the site to talk with the kids."
The school is in Parkersburg, about 80 miles northeast of Des Moines.
Thomas compiled a career record of 292-84 in 37 seasons as a head coach, 34 of them at Aplington-Parkersburg, and was one of the most well-known high school football coaches in Iowa. He was honored as the NFL High School Coach of the Year in 2005, and four of his former players are in the NFL: Green Bay's Aaron Kampman, Jacksonville's Brad Meester, Detroit's Jared DeVries and Denver's Casey Wiegmann.
DeVries, a defensive end with the Lions, walked off the practice field in Allen Park, Mich. toward the end of its morning practice, apparently shaken.
Team officials said DeVries was not immediately available for comment.
Thomas made national headlines last year when he insisted that the high school's football field, named in his honor, be rebuilt as a way to help restore community pride in Parkersburg after it was hit by a powerful tornado in May 2008 that killed six people and destroyed the high school.
"A lot of people know coach Thomas for his success as a football coach, but a lot of people here locally know him as a person, as a dad and grandfather, and that's where our thoughts are right now, with coach Thomas," said Superintendent Thompson.
Gov. Chet Culver, who was once a high school teacher and coach in Des Moines, said he was stunned by the shooting.
"As a former high school football coach, I've always had great admiration and respect for Coach Thomas," Culver said in a statement. "The state and national coaching fraternity has suffered a devastating loss. As we mourn the passing of Coach Thomas, it is my hope we can all continue to learn from his example."
Paul Rhoads, Iowa State's new football coach, said in a statement that Thomas was one of the first people to call him when he accepted the Cyclones job last December. Rhoads said Thomas was an Iowa coaching legend and "the best of people."
"His leadership set an example for us and his legacy will live on in the thousands of people he has touched in and out of the classroom and on and off the field," Rhoads said.
Toby Lorenzen, head coach at Central Lyon High School in Rock Rapids in northwest Iowa, said the killing was a shock to people in high school football programs throughout Iowa.
"He was one of the most down to earth, well respected coaches around."
Richard Wulkow, executive director of the Iowa High School Athletic Association, said in a statement that Thomas embodied what a coach should be.
"He will be forever remembered not so much for his many wins on the field, but for the exemplary manner in which he coached kids and led the Aplington-Parkersburg community and school. This was especially true last spring and summer as they rebuilt from a devastating tornado."
In 2005, a Texas high school football coach was shot by an angry parent who walked into the school fieldhouse and fired a single bullet into Gary Joe Kinne's stomach. The gunman's son played on the Canton High School football team with Kinne's son, who was the star quarterback.
Kinne survived. The shooter, Jeff Doyal Robertson, was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Suiseiseki took the early lead in the race with a 2038-642 blowout of Patchouli Knowledge in Toronto, Canada. Haruhi Suzuimiya kept her unbeated ISML season intact with an easy 2134-1035 pasting of Marisa Kirisame in Kinshasa, Congo DR.

With four necklace stages completed and the final 16 for the Tiara looking clearer, the 2009 International Saimoe League season soldiered on with the Emerald necklace phase.
Defending ISML champion Fate Testarossa Harlaown faced a stiff test from Maria in Istanbul, Turkey, but won 1728-1720, Kagami Hiiragi, the defending necklace champion, had a slightly easier time against Mai Kawasumi in Santiago, Chile, winning 1475-1233.
Suiseiseki took the early lead in the race with a 2038-642 blowout of Patchouli Knowledge in Toronto, Canada. Haruhi Suzuimiya kept her unbeated ISML season intact with an easy 2134-1035 pasting of Marisa Kirisame in Kinshasa, Congo DR.

She may not have been able to defend her Aquamarine, but the Sapphire necklace sure works for Shana.
The girl with the fire in her eyes torched Yuki Nagato in Santo Domingo, 1947-1359, to win her second ISML necklace and first of the season.
Supporters in the Dominican Republic capital of Shana waved flags that contained the logo, as well as their own national flag. Banners that said, "¡Shana, tu esta por siempre el fuego en nuestros corazones!" (Shana, you are forever the fire in our hearts!), "¡Shana-tan es mi gasolina!" (Shana-tan is my gasoline!) and "¡ENCIENDA!" (IGNITE!) were raised as Daddy Yankee's "Gasolina" was played over the speakers placed in the center of the city.
"To all my people and fans who have supported me, thank you from the very bottom of my heart," she said through a Spanish interpreter, surrounded by Kazumi Yoshida, Margery Daw and Yuji Sakai. "This victory is dedicated to you, and for you. Let us soldier on to the Emerald phase. Muchisimas gracias, ustedes. (Thank you very much, everyone.)"
"I lost to a worthy opponent," said Nagato in a conference after the fight. "Shana has proven that her relevance is still strong, and it will continue to be that way, so long as the fire that burns in her supporters then continues to burn now."
Haruhi Suzumiya, meanwhile, kept her unbeaten streak alive with a 1713-1445 victory over Kyou fujibayashi in Buenos Aires.
"Everything is going to plan so far," said Suzumiya. "I think Yuki is going to be the contest that could make or break my run. Kyou's defense was going to end anyway. Congratulations to Shana on her victory."
Suzumiya now has gone through four of seven necklace phases without a single defeat.
Tomoyo Sakagami also went through Sapphire undefeated with a 2004-1437 annihilation of the defending champion, Fate Testarossa Harlaown, in Lima.
"It feels good to end your campaign on a winning note," Sakagami said. "I think this will put me in good shape heading into these last three stages."
"Give credit to Tomoyo; she knew her schtick," said Fate at a news conference after her fight in the Peruvian capital. "I plan to use this as a learning experience because if this is how things will work out, the days of defending my Tiara could be numbered."
As of Sapphire 9, three shows are out of the competition: Bamboo Blade (Kirino Chiba, Tamaki Kawazoe), Shugo Chara (Amu Hinamori), and Azumanga Daioh. The representative of the latter, Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga, has yet to win a match. Aya Shameimaru and Patchouli Knowledge of Touhou and ARIA's Akari Mizunashi are also eliminated.
A pillow fight between already-eliminated opponents saw Knowledge defeat Kawazoe 1085-1037 in Dhaka.
Unless a miracle happens, all of Touhou's characters could be out of the competition by the end of Emerald or Ruby. But Reimu Hakurei is providing a flicker of hope. She defeated Minori Kushieda in Tokyo, 1434-1239, to end Sapphire on a winning note.
Fate/Stay Night's characters ended their Sapphire runs on a winning note. Illyasviel von Einzbern defeated Fuuko Ibuki 1690-1390 in Madrid, Saber had no problems against Kallen Kozuki (Stadtfeld) in a 2045-890 Colombian necktie in Bogota and Rin Tosaka scored a 1713-1341 victory over C.C. in Istanbul.
The Rozen Maiden Alice Dolls also collected a clean sweep. Suiseiseki defeated Sakura Kinomoto easily, 1871-1182, in Sydney. Suigintou trounced Tsukasa Hiiragi 1897-1423 in Los Angeles, and Shinku routed Sayuri Kurata 1744-1318 in Katowice.
In other action...Kotomi Ichinose sounded off Rena Ryuuguu 1777-1308 in Mexico City, Maria outlasted Hayate Yagami 1642-1296 in Mumbai, Evangeline McDowell defeated Kasuga 1688-817 in Sao Paulo, New York City witnessed Chii take out Remilioa Scarlet 1355-1147, Taiga Aisaka roared past Mei Sunohara 1706-1381 in Shanghai.
Mai Kawasumi whipped past Ami Kawashima 1550-1398 in Lagos, Marisa Kirisame stayed alive with a 1309-1280 win over Makoto Sawatari in Seoul, Konata Izumi defeated Nagisa Furukawa 1870-1584 in Dhaka, Anya Earlstreim took out Shameimaru 1442-1087 in Manila, and Cairo saw Konjiki no Yami (Golden Darkness) annihilate Alice Carroll 2070-824.
Louise Francoise Le Blanc De La valliere outpaced Shiori Misaka 1547-1300 in Paris, Vita ended her Sapphire campaign with a 1546-770 win over Mizunashi in Moscow, London saw Index L. Prohibitorum defeat Chiba 1323-1106, Nanoha Takamachi busted Rika Furude 1808-1455 in Tehran, and Misuzu Kamio defeated Hinamori 1586-1078 in Bangkok.
Wrapping up the Sapphire phase...Hinagiku Katsura scored an impressive 1608-1493 victory over Kagami Hiiragi in Santiago, Holo swallowed up Nagi Sanzen'in 1641-1328 in Kinshasa, Toronto saw Hanyuu Furude crush Shiki Ryogi 1690-981, Mikoto Misaka chalked up a thrilling 1291-1241 victory over Ayu Tsukimiya in Algiers and Nayuki MInase defeated Yuuhi Katagiri 1602-1310 in Milan.

Nagato scored a big 1461-672 victory over Ami Kawashima in Tehran to leap to the top of the table. A victory in match day 9 against Shana (who was victorious over Shinku 1536-1541 in Algiers) in Santo Domingo will all but clinch Yuki her second ISML necklace.

Also chasing Yuki are five other competitors, including still unbeaten Haruhi Suzumiya, who cruised to a 1894-729 clobbering of Aya Shameimaru in Tokyo. She also faces a worthy opponent in defending Kyou Fujibayashi in Buenos Aires, but their standings may not guarantee Haruhi the Sapphire nor Kyou a successful defense.
Fujibayashi kept her defense alive, defeating Hayate Yagami 1358-1045 in Toronto.
