ISML 2009: Yuki leads Sappphire with one day to go
June 19, 2009
Yuki Nagato took the lead in the 2009 International Saimoe League Sapphire necklace phase with one match day to go.
Nagato scored a big 1461-672 victory over Ami Kawashima in Tehran to leap to the top of the table. A victory in match day 9 against Shana (who was victorious over Shinku 1536-1541 in Algiers) in Santo Domingo will all but clinch Yuki her second ISML necklace.
Or will it?
Also chasing Yuki are five other competitors, including still unbeaten Haruhi Suzumiya, who cruised to a 1894-729 clobbering of Aya Shameimaru in Tokyo. She also faces a worthy opponent in defending Kyou Fujibayashi in Buenos Aires, but their standings may not guarantee Haruhi the Sapphire nor Kyou a successful defense.
Fujibayashi kept her defense alive, defeating Hayate Yagami 1358-1045 in Toronto.
Fate Testarossa Harlaown, the defending ISML champion, also has a tough nut to crack in the chick with the kicks-Tomoyo Sakagami-in Lima. Harlaown disposed of Shiori Misaka handily, 1554-882 in nearby Sao Paulo, while Sakagami routed Illyasviel von Einzbern 1577-1016 in Milan. But even a victory for either candidate will not guarantee that they will take the necklace unless the battle between Shana and Yuki is decided.
Kagami Hiiragi may seen to have a free pass to at least getting a clean slate in Sapphire. But she takes on a fearsome opponent in Hinagiku Katsura in Santiago to wrap up her run in this phase.
Hiiragi had no issue with Index L. Prohibitorum 1721-835 in Seoul, while Katsura slashed past Shiki Ryogi in 1717-706 in Dhaka.
In other action...Suiseiseki bulldoxed Kallen Kozuki (Stadtfeld) in Mexico City 1835-728, Mumbai witnessed Nagisa Furukawa bomb Nagi 1661-790, New York City saw Mikuru Asahina complete another SOS Brigade sweep with a 15221087 victory over Hanyuu Furude, Shanghai witnessed Louise Francoise Le Blanc de La Valliere defeat Evangeline McDowell 1266-1038, and Konata Izumi booted Mei Sunohara 1495-1125 in Lagos.
Saber tortured Kirino Chiba 1680-739 in Los Angeles, Nagi Sanzen'in destroyed Yuuhi Katagiri 1553-837 in Buenos Aires, Karachi saw Taiga Aisaka roar past Makoto Sawatari 1618-832, Fuuko Ibuki slammed down Akari Mizunashi 1579-864 in Manila, Sakura Kinomoto cruised pase Anya Earlstreim 1356-986 in Cairo, and Kotomi Ichinose sounded off Mikoto Misaka 1514-907 in Jakarta.
Suigintou wiped out Tamaki Kawazoe 1881-633 in Paris, Konjiki no Yami (Golden Darkness) stunned Mai Kawasumi 1359-871, Rena Ryuuguu billhooked Chii 1312-1087 in London, Lima saw nanoha Takamachi put the Starlight Breaker on hapless Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga 1646-676, Nayuki Minase scored a thrilling 923-903 win over Sayuri Kurata in Bangkok and Rin Tosaka was all business in an easy 1730-564 beatdown in Bogota.
Misuzu Kamio scored another upset, this time over C.C. 1362-1064 in Santiago, Minori Kushieda chalked up a 1382-830 win over Patchouli Knowledge in Kinshasa, Tsukasa Hiiragi confirmed a Lucky Star sweep with a 1548-939 brush-off of Vita in Madrid, Santo Domingo saw Horo chomp up Reimu Hakurei 1623-659 in Sydney, Rika Furude took down Marisa Kirisame 1462-859 in Santo Domingo and Amu Hinamori got her first win of the season with a thrilling 1042-1004 victory over Remilia Scarlet in Katowice.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Kobe Bryant pulled Phil Jackson close, embracing his coach and looking him straight in the eyes. After all they'd been through, this was their moment, their championship, their time. This was the one to top all the others.
The one without Shaq.
The one to pass Red.
Bryant's seven-year chase of a coveted championship is finally over. He's got his fourth title, and Jackson his record 10th. One year after failing in the finals, Bryant and the Lakers have redemption, and all the rewards that go with it.
Perfect 10
Phil Jackson can light his own victory cigar. With the Lakers' title-clinching Game 5 victory on Sunday, he passed Red Auerbach for the most championships by a coach in NBA history.
10 Phil Jackson Bulls (6), Lakers (4)
9 Red Auerbach Celtics
5 Pat Riley Lakers (4), Heat (1)
5 John Kundla Lakers
4 Gregg Popovich Spurs
2 Seven Tied
The Lakers earned their 15th title on Sunday night as Bryant scored 30 points and Pau Gasol added 14 and 15 rebounds in a 99-86 Game 5 win over the Orlando Magic, who ran out of comebacks.
It took longer than Bryant expected, but he has stepped out of former teammate Shaquille O'Neal's enormous shadow -- at last. His fourth championship secured a strong case can be made for Bryant being the league's best player since Michael Jordan hung up his sneakers.
Bryant, who averaged 32.4 points and was named finals MVP, said the can-he-win-without-Shaq talk annoyed him.
"It was like Chinese water torture," he said. "I would cringe every time. I was just like, it's a challenge I'm just going to have to accept because there's no way I'm going to argue it. You can say it until you're blue in the face and rationalize it until you're blue in the face, but it's not going anywhere until you do something about it.
Sheridan: Night To Remember
Dwight Howard and Jameer Nelson sat sad-faced on the Magic bench, watching the Lakers celebrate their 15th NBA title. Why? Because they plan to use the pain of losing as motivation for next season, writes Chris Sheridan. Story
"I think we as a team answered the call because they understood the challenge that I had, and we all embraced it."
O'Neal, now with the Phoenix Suns, was glad to see Bryant win another title.
"Congratulations kobe, u deserve it," O'Neal said on his Twitter page. "You played great. Enjoy it my man enjoy it."
Bryant's former coach now stands alone.
Jackson, the chilled-out, bow-legged Zen Master who won six league titles in the 1990s with Jordan in Chicago, now has won four with Los Angeles and broke a tie with legendary Boston coach Red Auerbach as the winningest coach in finals history.
"I'll smoke the cigar tonight in memory of Red," Jackson said. "He was a great guy."
Bryant and Jackson, whose relationship strained and briefly snapped under the weight of success, are again at the top of their games.
Together.
Jackson, who once called Bryant "a selfish player" now sees the 30-year-old in a far different light.
"He's learned how to become a leader in a way in which people want to follow him," Jackson said. "That's really important for him to have learned that because he knew that he had to give to get back in return, and so he's become a giver rather than just a guy that's a demanding leader. That's been great for him and great to watch."
Nothing was going to stop Bryant, who spent the postseason scowling, snarling, baring his teeth and all but breathing fire at anything in his path. For weeks, the All-Star has worn his game face. His daughters called him Grumpy. Only when the victory was his in the final seconds did he allow himself to smile.
"I was just completely locked in," he said. "I was grumpy for a while and now I'm just ecstatic, like a kid in a candy store."
After the final horn, Bryant leaped into the air and was quickly engulfed by his teammates, who bounced around the floor of Amway Arena. Bryant then gave his long, heartfelt hug and shared a few words with Jackson before sweeping up his little girls, both wearing gold Lakers dresses, into his arms.
It was just as he dreamed.
"It finally felt like a big old monkey was off my back," he said. "It felt so good to be able to have this moment. For this moment to be here and to reflect back on the season and everything that you've been through, it's top of the list, man."
High Five
Kobe Bryant was impressive throughout the NBA Finals, averaging 32.4 points against the Magic. His 162 total points were fourth-most all-time for an individual player in a five-game finals series.
Most Points 5-Game NBA Finals Series, All-Time
Year Player Pts PPG
'01 Allen Iverson, PHI 178 35.6
'65 Jerry West, LAL 169 33.8
'01 Shaquille O'Neal, LAL 165 33.0
'09 Kobe Bryant, LAL 162 32.4
'91 Michael Jordan, CHI 156 31.2
Bryant had come up short twice in the finals before, in 2004 with O'Neal against Detroit, and again last season against the Celtics in the renewal of the league's best rivalry. The Lakers were beaten in six games, losing the finale in Boston by 39 points, a humiliating beatdown that Bryant and his teammates had trouble shaking.
They went to training camp with one goal in mind. This was going to be their season, and except for a few minor missteps, it was.
In the locker room afterward, Bryant made sure Jackson got a champagne shower.
"He took his glasses off, threw his head back and soaked it all in because this is a special time," Bryant said. "For us to be the team that got him that historic 10th championship is special for us."
After beating Utah in the first round, Los Angeles was forced to go seven games against Houston, which lost center Yao Ming to an injury. The Lakers then took care of Denver in six games, setting up a matchup with the shoot-from-their-hips Magic, who made their first visit to the finals since O'Neal took them there in 1995.
Orlando will be haunted by moments in a series that swung on a few plays and had two overtime games.
After losing Game 1 by 25 points, the Magic had their chance in Game 2 but rookie Courtney Lee missed an alley-oop layup in the final second of regulation. In Game 4, Dwight Howard clanged two free throws with 11.1 seconds, and the Magic allowed Derek Fisher to nail a game-tying 3-pointer to force OT.
Howard, the Magic's superhero center, was hardly a factor in Game 5. He scored 11 points, took just nine shots and never got a chance to get going. Rashard Lewis scored 18 points, but was only 3 of 12 on 3s for Orlando, which after living on the 3, finally died by it.
The Magic went just 8 of 27 from long range.
"I thought our guys fought hard," coach Stan Van Gundy said. "But they just had an answer for everything."
Orlando was trying to become the first team to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the finals. They had rallied to knock off Philadelphia and Boston, and then upset LeBron James and Cleveland in the conference finals. The Magic always felt they had a shot at history.
Bryant, though, wouldn't be denied his place.
Orlando's magical mystery tour came to a quick end.
"It hurts," Howard said. "It hurts a lot. But you can learn a lot from losing. Sometimes you've got to lose to win."
As teammates, Bryant and O'Neal were nearly unbeatable on the court. Off it, there were problems.
The pair won three straight titles together from 2000-02, but the Bryant-O'Neal dynasty became dysfunctional as both fought for control with Jackson publicly siding with his All-Star center. It all eventually crumbled in 2004 when O'Neal was traded to the Miami Heat.
Bryant was blamed for the breakup, and as the years passed, his many critics said he couldn't win one by himself. He couldn't, but the addition of Gasol, who came over in a stunning trade from Memphis last season, filled O'Neal's massive void at center and gave Bryant help.
Fisher, who has four rings himself, came back to L.A. after stints in Golden State and Utah and became a steadying force. If not for his two key 3-pointers in Game 4, this series would still be going.
The Lakers were anything but The Kobe Show.
They got help from their entire roster as Odom, Trevor Ariza and Andrew Bynum, who missed most of last season and the playoffs with a knee injury, came through.
It all came together.
"To have the attitude of we're going to become a better defensive team, a better rebounding team and then to actually do it and to see it all happen, it feels like I'm dreaming.
"I can't believe this moment is here."
Game notes
Jackson received a congratulatory phone call from Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. ... Bryant had five assists and led the Lakers in each game.

ISML 2009: Rika, Saber, Fate roll, Haruhi stays unbeaten
June 9, 2009
Four match days in the 2009 International Saimoe League Sapphire stages concluded, and Rika Furude, Saber, and Fate Testarossa Harlaown picked up crucial victories. Haruhi Suzumiya, meanwhile, kept her unbeaten streak alive against a cupcake in Kallen Kozuki (Stadtfeld) in Algiers.
A battle of the Furude sisters pitting Rika against sibling Hanyuu saw the Drunken Master score a tenacious 1576-1009 victory in Bangkok. Her victory puts her at the top of the Sapphire table, with eleven others in the hunt.
Harlaown, the defending ISML Champion, prevailed over Taiga Aisaka 1796-1371 Santiago. Saber, whose real name is Arthuria Pendragon, slashed past Nagisa Furukawa 1695-1230 in Toronto.
Suzumiya had no problem against Kozuki in a 2146-802 rout in the Algerian capital. Her record of 31-0 ensures that she will be on pace to clinch an ISML Tiara spot first.
Once again, the Rozen Maiden Alice Doll power trio ensured that they will be sticking around for another edition. Shinku had no problems against Misuzu Kamio 1948-1146 in Bogota and Suiseiseki pulled off an impressive 1870-1537 win over Mikuru Asahina in Dhaka.

Suigintou's push towards a second straight necklace continued with a 2055-998 dusting of Sayuri Kurata in Istanbul. Shinku had no problems against Misuzu Kamio 1948-1146 in Bogota and Suiseiseki pulled off an impressive 1870-1537 win over Mikuru Asahina in Dhaka.

ISML 2009: Sapphire phase off and running
ISML 2009: Sapphire phase off and running
June 2, 2009
The fourth phase of the 2009 International Saimoe League regular season, the Sapphire phase, saw Haruhi continue her unbeaten run while the usual suspects did their business.
Suzumiya had no problems running down Chii in Lagos Nigeria, pummeling her 1644-885. Defending necklace holder scored an easy 1517-789 victory over Mai Kawasumi in Madrid, Spain. And defending champion Fate Testarossa Harlaown overcame a challenge from Hanyuu Furude to prevail in Paris, france, 1317-1128.
Some of the competitors who look to be out of the running for the Top 16 scored some victories. Yuuhi Katagiri, the outsider from Akane Iro Ni Somaru Saka, stunned Shiori Misaka in a thrilling 1015-1009 victory in Jakarta. Touhou has proved to be a bust this year, and Misuzu Kamio rubbed salt into the gaping wounds with a decision over Reimu Hakurei-the only Touhou Project character with a winning record-1149-934 in Toronto, Canada. And in a glorified pillow fight, Shiki Ryogi got on the win column with a win over Kallen Kozuki (Stadtfeld) 1006-959 in Algiers, Algeria.
In other action...Kagami Hiiragi wiped out Kirino Chiba 1742-658 in Tokyo, Japan. suigintou continued from where she left off in her Amethyst victory with a 1549-1015 victory over Konjiki no Yami 1549-1015 in Mexico City, Mexico. Mumbai, India saw Yuki Nagato thump Maria 1556-998, Shana torched Fuuko Ibuki 1577-1138 in Sao Paulo Brazil, Rika Furude edged Saber in a thrilling 1314-1284 win in Shanghai, China, and Hinagiku Katsura outlasted Louise Francoise Le Blanc De La Valliere 1479-877 in New York City, USA.
In Los Angeles, USA, Mei Sunohara rolled past Anya Earlstreim 1392-876, Nagisa Furukawa easily defeate Aya Shameimaru 1620-662 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Seoul, Korea Republic saw Shinku slaughter Mikoto Misaka 1448-976, Tomoyo Sakagami roundhoused Sayuri Kurata 1632-732 in Karachi, Pakistan and Marisa Kirisame scored a surprising 1052-834 victory over Tamaki Kawazoe in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
It wasn't a Thrilla in Maila, but Mikuru Asahina got the job done with a victory over Sakura Kinomoto 1412-1154 to secure an SOS Brigade sweep. Cairo, Egypt saw Rena Ryuuguu defeat Nayuki Minase 1183-972, Horo chomped up Evangeline A.K. McDowell 1423-769 in Istanbul, Turkey, Ami Kawashima routed Vita 1306-936 in Moscow, Russia and Rin Tosaka easily crushed Patchouli Knowledge 1584-617 in London, United Kingdom.
Whipping girl Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga was clearly not welcome in this league. She got run over in Lima 1321-669 by Index L. Prohibitorum. Theran, Iran saw Nanoha Takamachi bust Minori Kushieda 1309-1076, Nagi Sanzen'in doubled-up Remilia Scarlet 1478-724 in Bangkok, Thailand, the Colombian capital of Bogota saw Hayate Yagami prevail over Alice Carroll 1133-832, and Illyasviel von Einzbern smashed Nagi in Santiago, Chile 1604-740.
Wrapping up the day's action, Suiseiseki creamed Makoto Sawatari 1677-743 in Milan, Italy, Sydney, Australia saw Taiga Aisaka roar past Tsukasa Hiiragi in a 1314-1301 thrille, C.C. dominated Ayu Tsukimiya 1399-990 in santo Domingo, Dominican republic and Katowice, Poland saw Kotomi Ichinose chalk up a 1569-749 victory over Amu Hinamori.

ISML 2009: Suigintou gets the Amethyst
ISML 2009: Suigintou gets the Amethyst
May 30, 2009
With the close of May is the close of the 2009 International Saimoe League Amethyst phase, and Suigintou, everyone's (well, almost everyone's) favorite hunk of junk, is the top dog.
In Buenos Aires, she was able to defeat Nagisa Furukawa 2011-1049 to win her first-ever necklace of her ISML career.
In front of a capacity crowd at Estadio Amerigo Vespucci (also known as "El Monumental"), the Rozen Maiden doll, surrounded by rival Shinku (who pummeled Louise Francoise Le Blanc de La Valliere in Dhaka 1884-1270) and Suiseiseki (who secured an Alice Dolls sweep with an impressive 1803-1546 victory over Konata Izumi in nearby Sao Paulo), addressed the fans who waved large purple, black and white banners.
"Thank you everyone who helped me to this victory," she said with a rather sadistic, but delighted, laugh. "I may be junk like my friend here calls me, but who's laughing now?"
"Hey, no hard feelings, but you owe me one, Suigintou," the red-bonneted blonde doll said, holding a plush replica of Kun Kun.
"Never count out the Rozen Maidsen dolls desu!" Suiseiseki, the former 2chan and Anizone Saimoe champion said. "If you do, we'll make you pay desu!"
"Yes, credit goes out to my rivals here, who are also my good friends as well. But most importantly, I owe it to all of you who voted for me, and supported me during out campaign. Through hard work and perseverance, and a will to win, we have done it. Now let's do it again in the Sapphire stage!" she exclaimed with another evilly delighted chuckle.
"You can stop now," Shinku said.
"Awww, but I like to gloat every now and then," Suigintou said with a pout that turned to a wide smile. "It's my nature."
"Thank you for all your support desu!" Suiseiseki said with Shinku having a palm stuck to her forehead.
For Kagami Hiiragi, it was not supposed to end this way. A 1899-1322 defeat to Tomoyo Sakagami in Kinshasa did in the defending 2chan Saimoe champion. Kagami was unavailable for comment. Actually, it was an awful day for Lucky Star in general, as Tsukasa Hiiragi also lost, this time to C.C. in Madrid 1608-1412.
But it was a good day for the defending ISML champion Fate Testarossa Harlaown and for still-unbeaten Haruhi Suzumiya.
Harlaown wrapped up her Amethyst run with an impressive 1802-1497 victory over Yuki Nagato in Moscow, a replay of the 2008 ISML final. Suzumiya finished unbeaten through three necklace phases with a 1599-1494 victory over Hinagiku Katsura in Seoul. Ultimately, the margin was too small to overcome Suigintou's annihilation of the CLANNAD franchise character in Argentina.
But the celebrated SOS Brigade leader was not disappointed with the outcome.
"Aside from Fate, how many can say that they went through three straight necklace periods undefeated without winning one?" she said in front of reporters in the Korean capital. "Not many. In fact, I'd rather be wearing a tiara than a necklace. Again, as I stated before, the defending champion-who won today-did not win a single necklace, yet won the entire tournament.
"I feel I am on track to do the same thing. So let's see what happens."
Shana and Rin Tosaka also finished unbeaten in the Amethyst phase. The fiery-eyed girl burned Kyou Fujibayashi 1928-1358 in Lagos, while Tosaka defeated Rena Ryuguu in Karachi to the tune of 1517-1354.
In other action, Nanoha Takamachi defeated Sakura Kinomoto 1618-1233 in Tokyo, Mexico City saw Tamaki Kawazoe get on the win column with a 1471-1139 win over Amu Hinamori in Mexico City, Mumbai saw Saber launch a 1970-909 mule over Nagi, Mei Sunohara trounced Patchouli Knowledge 1845-840, and whipping girl Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga was easily beated by Nayuki Minase in Shanghai, 1701-809.
Marisa Kirisame chalked up a 1280-723 victory over Aya Shameimaru in a battle of the Touhou Project characters, Holo chomped up Kotomi Ichinose 1554-1359 in Manila, Akari Mizunashi got on the win column with a 1233-910 stunner over Alice Carroll in Cairo, Sayuri Kurata defeated Hayate Yagami 1547-1093 in Jakarta and Mikuru Asahina routed Vita 1895-+1014 in Paris.
Fuuko Ibuki stomped Shiki Ryogi 1737-985 in Istanbul, Taiga Aisaka roared past Anya Earlstreim 1841-989 in London, Nagi Sanzen'in closed her Amethyst campaign on a winning note with a 1559-1283 victory over Rika Furude in Lima, Ayu Tsukimiya edged Yuuhi Katagiri 1388-1159 in Tehran.
Ami Kawashima defeated Maria 1558-1346 in Bangkok, Illyasviel von Einzbern secured a Fate/Stay Night sweep with a 1546-1170 rout in Bogota, Misuzu Kamio had no problems against Remilia Scarlet 1694-794 in Santiago, Reimu Hakurei prevailed over Makoto Sawatari 1334-1116, Konjiki no Yami (Golden Darkness) crushed Mikoto Misaka 1614-890 in Algiers,. and Hanyuu Furude destroyed Index L. Prohibitorum 1543-995 in Milan.
Wrapping up the phase's action, Shiori Misaka defeated Kirino Chiba 1325-1000 in Sydney, Santo Domingo saw Minori Kushieda complete a Toradora! sweep with a 1625 annihilation of Chii, and Evangeline McDowell tore down Kallen Kozuki (Stadtfeld) 1610-905 in Katowice.

ISML 2009: Can Kagami hold on to defend her Amethyst?
ISML 2009: Can Kagami hold on to defend her Amethyst?
May 28, 2009
As the month of May closes-and with it the 2009 International Saimoe League Amethyst phase-the big question is on the minds of voters heading in the final match day: can Kagami Hiiragi defend her necklace?
Yuki Nagato is looking to make it two in a row while Shana is also hoping to earn her second-ever necklace. Fellow SOS Brigade member and franchise leader Haruhi Suzumiya (also the only remaining unbeaten) is looking to be the first to win three different ISML necklaces. Suigintou, who is second in the standings, lies close behind in anticipation of a solid result in Amethyst 9. And Rin Tosaka of Fate Stay/Night could surprise everyone in the pack if the chips fall in her favor.
Kagami torched Shiori Misaka 2028-940 in London, while Suigintou prevailed over Mei Sunohara 1751-1341 in Karachi. Nagato routed Illyasviel von Einvbern 1939-1144 in Toronto and Suzumiya kept her streak going with an easy 2234-894 victory over Remilia Scarlet in Madrid. Shana burned past Hayate Yagami 2067-1005 in Manila and Tosaka defeated Mikoto Misaka 1648-1144 in Sao Paulo.
For Kagami, she has a tough cookie to crack in Tomoyo Sakagami, but a victory over the chick with kicks could seal a successful defense. Sakagami sent Shiki Ryogi upwards with a 2047-886 beatdown in Bogota. For the hardest-working hunk of junk, she has a tough task in containing Nagisa Furukawa. The dango-hauling breadwinner routed Vita 1887-1123 in Tokyo.
Yuki may have the toughest test among those still in contention: a date with defending ISML Champion Fate Testarossa Harlaown. The Bardiche-swinging blonde superstar eliminated Shinku from contention in a 1800-1542 victory in Mexico City. But can a win over Fate be enough?
Haruhi and Rin, however, have easier fish to fry.
Suzumiya's next match to close out the Amethyst is against Hinagiku Katsura, who pasted Index L. Prohibitorum 1955-772 in Moscow. Tosaka's last match in the Amethyst phase is against Rena Ryuuguu, who defeated Misuzu Kamio 1466-1276 in Buenos Aires.
Whether or not victories for Haruhi and Rin will be enough remains to be seen. Then again, this IS the ISML, and upsets have happened, at the behest of the voters who make the call.
In other action, Kotomi Ichinose thumped Yuuhi Katagiri 1851-1016 in Mimbai, New York City sqw Minori Kushieda defeat Ami Hinamori 1517-1184, Konata Izumi killed Anya Earlstreim 1979-1019 in Shanghai and Louise Francoise Le Blanc De La Valliere stomped Nayuki Minase 1536-1220 in Lagos.
C.C. put Tamaki Kawazoe to sleep 1829-968 in Los Angeles, Seoul saw Sakura Kinomoto chalk up a 1539-1084 win over Marisa Kirisame, Saber sliced up Hanyuu Furude 1682-1257 in Dhaka, Evangeline McDowell ran down Kirino Chiba 1344-962 in Cairo and Tsukasa Hiiragi secured a sweep for the Lucky Star girls with a 1862-966 annihilation of Alice Carroll in Jakarta.
Suiseiseki had no problems against Nagi in a 1817-956 blowout in Paris, Istanbul saw Makoto Sawatari score a 1402-964 victory, Maria defeated Konjiki no Yami (Golden Darkness) 1480-1237 in Lima, Nagi Sanzen'in chalked up a 2008-735 pummeling of whipping girl Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga in Tehran and Kyou Fujibayashi defeated Ami Kawashima rather handily, 2066-966 in Bangkok.
Wrapping up the day's action: Rika Furude prevailed over Reimu Hakurei 1470-1131 in Santiago, Ayu Tsukimiya "uguued" Sayuri Kurata to death 1342-999 in Kinshasa, Nanoha Takamachi busted Kallen Kozuki (Stadtfeld) 1839-945 in Algiers, Horo chomped up Chii 1642-1102 in MIlan, Taiga Aisaka roared past Aya Shameimaru 1941-805 in Sydney, Mikuru Asahina secured a SOS Brigade sweep with a thrilling 1569-1550 victory in Santo Domingo, and Mai Kawasumi easily took out Akari Mizunashi 1620-910 in Katowice.

ISML 2009: Seven remaining in the hunt after Amethyst 7
ISML 2009: Seven remaining in the hunt after Amethyst 7
May 26, 2009
With two match days remaining in the 2009 International Saimoe League Amethyst phase, there are seven competitors in contention for the necklace, representing the moon.
Kagami Hiiragi moved one step closer towards a successful defense, while overall remaining unbeaten Haruhi Suzumiya stayed close behind in second.
Kagami, the 2008 2chan Saimoe champion, scored an easy 1972-1012 rout of Evangeline McDowell in Istanbul. Suzumiya rolled to a 2036-1043 pasting of Index L. Prohibitorum in Los Angeles.
Five others are still in contention for the necklace. Suigintou, who lost ground to Kagami, kept hope alive with a 2028-823 rollover of Makoto Sawatari in Santo Domingo, while rival Shinku defeated Illyasviel von Einzbern 1543-1301 in Dhaka.
Yuki Nagato vaporized Akari Mizunashi 2110-920 Karachi, Rin Tosaka took down Maria 1567-1176 in Manila, and the always-fearsome Shana showed she'd lost none of her poise in a 2010-1021 victory over Ayu Tsukimiya in Moscow.
In Sao Paulo, Tomoyo Sakagami knocked Mikuru Asahina out of contention with a 1706-1414 victory, Saber prevailed over Hinagiku Katsura in a spirited swordfight in Mexico City 1508-1323, and Fuko Ibuki scored an impressive 1308-1102 victory over Nagisa Furukawa in Milan, showing how competitive the CLANNAD characters are in terms of parity.
ISML defending champion Fate Testarossa also scored an important 1731-1133 victory over Nayuki Minase in Seoul.
Going through the rest of the days action...Mei Sunohara defeated Vita 1691-1179 in Tokyo, Alice Carroll chalked up a 1231-1161 decision over Tamaki Kawazoe in Mumbai, Rika Furude romped to a 1775-924 win over Patchouli Knowledge in New York City, and Minori Kushieda scored a surprising 1371-1283 upset of C.C. in Shanghai.
Horo gobbled up Amu Hinamori 1707-1079 in Lagos, Buenos Aires witnessed Kotomi Ichinose sound out Sayuri Kurata 1759-1020, Misuzu Kamio defeated Mikoto Misaka 1433-960 in Cairo, Rena Ryuuguu chopped down Remilia Scarlet 1598-1050 and Suiseiseki secured a successful day for the Rozen Maiden Alice Dolls with a 1659-1108 in Paris.
London saw Taiga Aisaka roar past Sakura Kinomoto and Cerberus in a 1406-1356 thriller, Reimu Hakurei had no problem against whipping girl Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga with a 1548-949 in Lima, Kyou Fujibayashi bounced back with a 1472-1245 decision over Yuuhi Katagiri in Tehran, Chii edged Yuuhi Katagiri 1350-1304 in Bangkok, and Bogota saw Marisa Kirisame score a surprising 1342-1275 victory over Kallen Kozuki (Stadtfeld).

It's official...
And so the war goes on. Nice going, you six old shagbags on the California Supreme Court. Out of money and out of tolerance. Hence my first sentence.

Damn you Merida! I was putting my money on Tijuana to advance to the Promotional Final in Primera Division A against Queretaro, you sons of bitches! Hell!
---
And the Los Angeles Sol win again while the Galaxy tie...again. I think we have a new nickname for the guys...the "Tie-Fighters." They don't play to win...they play to draw. And it's a Star Wars reference, by the way.
---
So I was at the Anime Expo staff barbecue yesterday in Irvine. It was held at this park where there was some swings, a pool, a person rumoured to be Rosie from that AC/DC song (duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-daaaat ANGUS!), and plenty of food. I rated some anime music videos with some old friends, shook hands with other big shots, and even shared some magazines.
For some unknown reason, one of my AC mates is in love with Sawako Yamanaka, the club advisor and band manager from K-ON! Apparently he likes them old, he likes them wild, and he likes being off the beaten path. Nuff said.
After I left the party, I was stuck in Irvine for a while, sipping some green team while detouring to Kino's to catch up on my Haruhi manga. The new series is out, by the way.

After I left the party, I was stuck in Irvine for a while, sipping some green team while detouring to Kino's to catch up on my Haruhi manga. The new series is out, by the way.

After six match days in the 2009 International Saimoe League Amethyst phase, one of the biggest upsets took place in Mumbai, while a similar ones took place in Jakarta and Moscow.
The biggest one of the day was Rin Tosaka defeating Kyou Fujibayashi 1797-1466 in the Indian city. The victory meant that Haruhi Suzumiya is the only unbeaten in all phases of the ISML regular season through 24 match days. Suzumiya delivered a businesslike 2053-1225 victory over Rena Ryuuguu in Santo Domingo.
Meanwhile, in the Indonesian capital, Nagisa Furukawa delivered a shocking 1427-1340 upset of Tomoyo Sakagami. A few days after Alexander Rybak delivered the Eurovision bacon for Norway, Suiseiseki delivered a 1697-1384 upset of Hinagiku Katsura, eliminating her from necklace contention.
It was a solid day for the Rozen Maiden Alice Dolls. Suigintou galvanized her lead with a 1966-1039 rout of Rika Furude in Santiago while rival Shinku kept pace with a 1738-798 mule-kicking of Akari Mizunashi in London.
However, Kagami Hiiragi took hold of first place in the Amethyst standings, coming one step closer to defending her necklace with a 1917-1052 victory over Nanoha Takamachi in Lagos.

Also still unbeaten and in contention is Shana. The fiery-eyed wonder outlasted Kotomi Ichinose in a 1563-1526 thriller in Shanghai.
