Lakewood Boys Soccer: "Nah, I'd Win."

It is a symbolic third place finish for Lakewood boys soccer in their division. They lose the sectional final to the No. 2 ranked team and the regional final to the No. 1 ranked team. That said, the Buffalo Bills may have competition in terms of teams qualifying for a final just to lose it.

But look on the bright side, boys. You could be Millikan or Poly or Wilson right now. They are in the mindset of "It should have been us, not them!" in terms of your progress. It takes a lot of skill proficiency at the right time and skill issues at the wrong time to finish runners-up in not one, but TWO finals.

Not a lot of teams can do that. Some who win their sectional final go on to be eliminated in the first round of regionals, like Animo Leadership...or Etiwanda. You will be surprised to know that Mater Dei, more known for their world-beating National Champion football team, also lost their regional final 2-0...at the hands of another San Diego based team called St. Augustine. Even more surprising...they were the No. 1 seed and St. Augustine...were No. 3.

So be proud, Lakewood boys soccer. You gave it the old Lancer try, and achieved something that the rest of the Moore League could only dream of achieving, maybe, not by choice, but by destiny...runner-up finishes in sectionals and state. You may not have won any major trophies anywhere, but to make it to the final game of the boys soccer season and be the ones to call time on the 2023-24 Long Beach winter prep sports season...Stand proud Lakewood, you are strong.

Congratulations. Go Wood.
